JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Hospital Play Assistant
Accountable to: Play Service Manager
Responsible to: Team Leader/Play Co-ordinator
Liaises with: - Multidisciplinary team.
JOB SUMMARY
�
To maintain a safe, child-focused environment where play occurs naturally.�
To provide play for normalisation for children attending hospital as in or out patients.�
To document play interventions.�
To use knowledge of child development when selecting play activities.Duties and Responsibilities
Play
|
� To organise and supervise play activities for individual and groups of children and young people in hospital, according to their individual needs and as part of the overall plan.� To plan a programme of daily play activities for the playroom. |

Communication
|
� To establish effective communication, both verbal and written with children/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team.� To provide play based observations to support the overall assessment of the child. |
||
Documentation |
� To ensure that up to date written records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards. |
||
Professional Ethics |
� To comply with the NAHPS Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies.� To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients and their families, and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.

� To review and reflect on own practice and performance through the effective use of clinical supervision and appraisal. |

Service development & delivery |
� To participate in the delivery of the play service development plan

� To keep records of training attended.� To be aware of current research within own field. |

� To work within the Directorate�s clinical governance and quality agenda.� To demonstrate an understanding of NAHPS Guidelines for Professional Practice. |

Responsibility for Resources |
� To monitor play resources� To be responsible for maintaining play equipment, in accordance with Trust health and safety standards |
